This term we are studying India. As a follow up, for technology we built a Taj Mahal which is a VERY famous building in Agra, India.
Did you know that the Taj Mahal is symmetrical all the way round and is built entirly of white marble. It was made as a tomb for Emperor Shah Jahan’s wife Mumtaz Mahal. It took approximately 18-20 years and 20 000 men to build the whole building. We had great fun building them.
On Monday, room 16 went to Lab on Legs.We had to solve the mystery of the missing cattle. We had lots of different Forensic science activities. These activities would give us an idea of who commited the crime. At the end we had to put all our proof onto a summary sheet and work out who we think commited the crime. This was a real crime solved in Queensland 2002-2003.
Have you ever witnessed a crime? If so, what was it?
This week Room 16 has been working on technology. Our task was to build a fully functional car using corflute, skewers, bottle tops, rubber bands, straws, 1 cork and an electric motor. Glue and tape were not allowed. The car was motored by 2 AA batteries wired up to the electric motor. One of the problems was reducing friction. Millie found out that rearranging the wires from the batteries would change the direction of the car.
What would be your favourite thing to build in technology?
This Friday our class did some Orienteering. We had 4 courses. There were 2 short and 2 long courses. When we reached each station we had to stamp our map. If we wanted to, we could go with partners.
When reading the map the north arrow had to be facing the main building at all times.
On Monday in Science we separated a solute (salt) from a solvent (H2O). First we made a saturated solution. Then we poured 2 to 3 cm of the saturated solution into a test tube.Next we heated up the solution over a Bunsen Burner. The H2O completely evaperated and all that was left was the solute.
Hello and welcome to Room 16’s first ever blog! We will share what we are doing in the room, around the school and in the community throughout 2009. Looking forward to sharing this with you.
